aftercare instructions

please follow the aftercare below relevant to your procedure. it is very important to follow these instructions to ensure best results.

BROW AFTERCARE

The colour of your brows will appear dark, thicker and ‘blockish’ while healing. It is also normal to feel light, patchy and asymmetrical once the scabs fall off which is why you need a touch up session. This is all completely normal and to be expected during the healing process. Please refrain from contacting us during this time unless you believe you are having a reaction. First 4 hours following treatment you may weep lymph fluid which you will need to blot away to avoid heavy scabbing which can cause loss of colour. If a cream was applied on your brows by your tattooist immediately after treatment then wipe off after 2 hours and ignore the step above.

Do not apply any aftercare balm for the first 48 hours. After 48 hours apply paper thin layer to brows morning and night until all scabs fall off.
Until all scabs fall off (normally 7-10 days), avoid the following: wetting area, sweating, exercise, makeup, facials, hot showers (steam), sun exposure, skin care containing retinol or glycolic acid or salicylic acid.

Do not itch scabs or pick at scabs as you will pull out the colour implanted (It is normal to see chunks falling off.)

Do not sleep with pets or do anything that can cause a high risk of bacterial infection.

Longevity of the tattoo:

Avoid direct sun exposure, smoking, facials/ skin care products containing ingredients outlined above. If you have oily skin your brows may not last as long as someone with a normal skin type.

90% of your healed results are determined by correctly followed pre care & aftercare. The true result will not be revealed until you are healed from your 6 weeks touch up session. Please be mindful that all skin types heal differently and we have no control over this. If you are excessively oily or a heavy bleeder during your treatment then it is also possible that a third touch up can be required.

All touch up session costs are additional and not included in your original session price. As we are booked far in advance, it is the clients responsibility to book in their 6 week follow up to get in on time.

If the 6 weeks touch up exceeds 3 months then the client will be required to book as a 3-6 month touch up instead. Brows should be maintained with a yearly touch up.

lip aftercare

The colour of your lip tattoo will appear vibrant/ reddish in colour while healing. Please refrain from contacting us during this time unless you believe you are having a reaction.

  • First 4 hours following treatment you may weep lymph fluid which you will need to blot away with tissue to avoid heavy scabbing which can cause loss of colour.

  • Drink from a straw for the first 48 hours and brush teeth with care.

  • Apply aftercare balm provided to you as frequently as you would like.

  • Do not touch the tattoo area with hands, anything unclean or sleep with pets as this can cause high risk of bacteria infection.

  • Until all scabs fall off avoid the following: wetting area, makeup, facials, hot showers (steam), sun exposure.

  • Do not itch scabs or pick at scabs as you will pull out the colour implanted (It is normal to see chunks falling off.)

You will heal from the inside of your lips first as this is a wet area. It is normal for the lip line to be more vibrant and heal last. The True colour will not be revealed until week 2-3 of the healing process.

All scabs normally take no longer than 1 week to fall off. Most lip tattoos do not require a touch up session unless you decide to alter the colour a little or had previous issues with the area that may have decreased your pigment retention. If you require a touch up session it will be at your cost.

If you are prone to cold sores and have taken your preventative medication beforehand, you may still get a cold sore as the medication is not 100%. If you have never had a cold sore and you notice you are getting one, this means that you are a carrier of the virus without knowing and you will need to get some over the counter medication to help heal it.

The spot in which you get a cold sore may cause you to lose colour which can be fixed with a touch up session. A lip tattoo causes trauma and there is no guarantee on preventing a cold sore outbreak.

Avoid direct sun exposure, smoking, skin care products with ingredients that may cause fading eg. retinol, laser treatment (on or near lip area). These things may decrease the life of your tattoo.

LASER TATTOO REMOVAL AFTERCARE

Do not use any moisturisers or lotions, which are highly perfumed or contain active ingredients such as retinol, glycolic acids. Please use bland products during the healing phase or until your skin is no longer sensitive. Thereafter please use your prescribed skin care regime.

  • Wear broad spectrum SPF 30+ (UVA/UVB) daily and avoid unprotected UV (sun) exposure.

  • Apply cool compress to ease erythema (redness) and discomfort. However if the heat sensation is painful (similar

to a burn) please call the salon.

  • Avoid heat-inducing activities and chlorinated water for 24-48 hours.

  • Do not pick or pull at any areas of the skin during the healing phase, as this may increase your chances of

    infection resulting in a scar.

  • Do not have waxing done or anything that may cause trauma to the skin during the healing phase.

  • If you have any concerns with your treatment please contact you A Touch of Brow immediately so we can advise

    on post care instructions.

Expected changes to the skin over the next 7 to 21 days include:

  • Day 1 to 2 - Frosting (greying) of the tattoo ink. This is temporary and goes within 20 minutes or so of the treatment. Moderate to severe redness (erythema), swelling (oedema), heat and sensitivity.

  • Day 2 to 7 - Petechiae (small pinpoint spots of blood) or purpura (bruise).

  • Crusting/scabbing of the tattoo ink that will naturally exfoliate with the skins cellular turnover

  • Day 7+ - Tattoo ink will start to fade

  • It is normal for any hair in the treated area to turn white. This is temporary and will return when the new follicle

    grows..
